The basic JANET service provided by LeNSE is the transmission of version 4 and version 6 IP data, both unicast and multicast (the latter only when requested by an individual Nominated Organisation), between and amongst all Nominated Connections and the JANET Backbone. Our service availability record is at least 99.95%, assessed monthly over a rolling 12 month period, which is above JANET(UK)’s contracted 99.7% service level target. The LeNSE network is resiliently connected to the JANET backbone by diversely routed fibres from the Regional Network Entry Points to two different core nodes on the JANET backbone, and routing within the LeNSE network is configured such that services will not be affected (or suffer a minimum of disruption) should the connection fail to the JANET Backbone at one Regional Network Entry Point. For the avoidance of doubt, where a Nominated Organisation only has a single connection to one of our routers and that router fails, this will not count as a failure of resilience for that Nominated Organisation.
LeNSE is also in a position to engineer optional services to selected JANET customers on request, such as the JANET Lightpath service, which is typically based on a non-resilient point-to-point bandwidth channel up to 1Gbps. The details of the Lightpath provision, timing and any charges to JANET(UK) will be agreed between the parties on a case-by-case basis. Once agreement to provide a Lightpath has been reached, then JANET(UK) will place an order with LeNSE for the Lightpath service, which will be implemented by LeNSE within the agreed timescale.
